One of the most sought after grains in Brazilian crops, coffee is a protagonist in the country's production. And the numbers and projections for 2024 do not disappoint. According to Conab (National Supply Company), the coffee harvest in Brazil should increase 5,5% compared to the previous year. With the crop harvest starting in mid-April and May, the stage should reach 58,08 million 60kg bags. By way of comparison, in 2023 the harvest was 55,07 million bags.

Still considering estimates for 2024, production of the Arabica variety is expected to reach 40,75 million bags, showing an increase of 4,7%. The conilon (or Robusta) harvest is projected at 17,33 million bags, indicating growth of 7,2% also compared to last year.

In relation to the national average productivity of the crop, Conab indicates an estimated volume of 30,3 bags per hectare, indicating 3% more when compared to the previous harvest. For arabica coffee, the estimated productivity is 26,7 bags/ha, while that of conilon is 44,3 bags/ha.

Conab also recalls that the 2021 and 2022 harvests had low productivity, largely due to adverse weather conditions, which modified the growth trend that was expected in the crop. However, in 2023, a recovery phase began, where weather conditions were more favorable for coffee.

We already know that the projections are good, but another topic that raises an alarm is productivity. Even with the most intense rains, it is important that coffee producers always keep an eye on the development of the plants. Care for coffee plantation growth needs to consider the action of the sun and high temperatures, which are increasingly common in the country. Some crops are more susceptible to sun exposure, and coffee is one of them.

For occasions like this, where excess light and high temperatures cause greater rates of productivity loss, in coffee plantations, farmers can count on Sungard, the sunscreen for leaves and fruits, created with the aim of providing thermal comfort for the crop, avoiding stress on plants by reducing leaf temperature and causing a significant reduction in productivity losses in the crop.

In addition to counting on Sungard, you, the producer, can also check out the special tips to increase the productivity of your farm that are in the exclusive infographic “Timeline for Achieving Maximum Soil Potential.” The material was prepared by Viter technicians and will certainly help you renew, nourish and optimize the soil for planting, in addition to protecting the crop from the harmful effects of sunlight.
